Magento is an open source eCommerce framework that was launched by Varien in 2008. Acquired in 2011 by eBay for over $180 million, the platform has become so successful that everybody is talking Magento currently. Today, Magento has overtaken the open source world literally overnight. Circa 2013, it is by far the most well known software platform in the entire eCommerce world. Various top rated companies around the world are choosing Magento as their platform of choice and many more are also following suit. Due to the extremely customer friendly nature of a Magento Store, companies that have moved to Magento have been richly rewarded for this step.
