Brief Highlights of Imagine – Magento’s Successful 2013 Conference
Imagine is the premier global eCommerce conference where merchants, partners, developers, and Magento enthusiasts from around the world come together for three days in an engaging and enthusiastic environment. After the phenomenal success of the 2011 and 2012 conferences, the 2013 conference was held at the M Resort at Las Vegas, USA from April 8th to 10th 2013.
As part of this conference, 1500 developers and merchants from 45 countries descended upon the M resort in Las Vegas for the 2013 Imagine conference, to network and share their ecommerce ideas, innovations, and best practices that revolved around the Magento platform. Some of the best moments and experiences of this conference are highlighted as below:
Day One Events
On Day One, the discussions centered around how Magento is driving quality in the market place. Discussions also centered around how developers and technology partners could achieve ecosystem success. Some of the day’s events were:
- Sessions on best practice search engine optimization techniques
- Networking ‘Bar Camp’ event
- Developing Magento Apps using Mobile SDK
- Previewing extensibility in Magento 2
- Open Forum with Magento Chief Technology Officer Matthew Mengerink
Day Two Events
Day Two events began with tremendous excitement and enthusiasm. Keynote speakers such as
- eBay Inc. Chief Executive Officer John Donahoe
- Magento Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer Roy Rubin
- Jeff Jordan of Andreessen Horowitz
- Magento Chief Technology Officer Matthew Mengerink.
stole the show and delivered spectacular and impressive presentations.
The day’s first speaker was Roy Rubin, who addressed Magento’s amazing year of growth for both the platform, as well as for the customer and the world wide ecommerce ecosystem. Roy Rubin also spoke on the conference theme – “The Art of Commerce”.
Roy Rubin was followed by John Donahoe, who discussed an ongoing phenomenon called ‘connected commerce’ on the lines that technology was obliterating the lines between online and offline commerce. Meanwhile, Jeff Jordan spoke about existing trends in the ecommerce market such as physical retailer disadvantages and show-rooming 2.0.
Mathew Mengerink ended the keynotes presentation with a discussion on how to push the boundaries of how we think and that yesterday’s principles no longer matched the commerce of today. Afternoon breakout sessions from the technology as well as business tracks included topics such as:
- Creating Successful Magento ERP Integrations
- SEO/SEM Trends for 2013
- Where, Why, and How of Responsive Web Design
Particularly, Roy Rubin highlighted how Magento is leveraging the power of eBay Inc., to create a brighter future for merchants, which could translate into further benefits for merchants.
Day Two concluded with a keynote by Sharon Meers, who shared Magento’s tremendous success within the travel industry. She described how Magento Enterprise Edition has become the platform of choice for some of the world’s most prestigious brands. This talk was concluded with a live fashion show with 14 models showcasing the latest looks from Magento customers such as Custo Barcelona, Erin Fetherston, Missguided, Nanette Lepore, Paul Smith, Rebecca Minkoff and Zadig & Voltaire.
Day Three Events
On Day Three, Jimmy Duvall, Head of Product for Magento, introduced the Magento Enterprise 1.13 release. He also spoke about how the release was designed effectively to enable large as well as growing merchants to effectively scale their businesses. The new version is also capable of supporting even greater number of visitors and buyers to their core ecommerce sites in the midst of streamlining their back-end operations.
Chief Technology Officer James Barrese of PayPal also addressed the crowd on Day Three. He announced that two new PayPal extensions “order ahead” and “in-aisle selling” would be immediately available on Magento Connect.
Also closing out the morning session was “Freakanomics” co-author Steven Levitt, who captivated the audience with his lively spirit and anecdotes. His most touching message was that people need to spend more time thinking about ideas, and we can make up for the low quantity of ideas by high quality of ideas.
