According to BigCommerce co-founder, Eddie Machaalani, the release of the RESTful API is another big step towards the Australian company creating the “world’s first true e-commerce platform.”
The API allows third party developers complete access to the BigCommerce platform by making orders, products, customers and photos available for both retrieving and updating programmatically, and Machaalani says opening up the platform with the new API will “further enable developers to build powerful order fulfillment, shipping, customer management, inventory management, accounting, marketing and analytic tools that plug straight in to any BigCommerce store.” Read more on Building an eCommerce Website? According to Machaalani, BigCommerce is already the easiest to use and fastest growing eCommerce platform in the world. From our headquarters in Surry Hills we’ve been able to power over 20,000 online retailers globally,” he said.
And, Machaalani’s co-founder, Mitch Harper, says that “there is no one-size-fits-all solution for e-commerce,” and the pair realized this a long time ago. “Our new API really puts BigCommerce in the middle as the platform, allowing unlimited integration possibilities for third party developers.”
“We already have integrations with over 110 partners, however these were built in-house. Our new API will allow tens of thousands of integrations to be built without our help, this increasing the speed of innovation around e-commerce which ultimately helps our clients make more money and streamline their business processes,” Harper says.
Harper says that BigCommerce already integrates with Facebook to allow its clients to sell products through the fast-growing social network, as well as eBay, Shopzilla, Quickbooks, Google Analytics and Website Optimizer, LivePerson, Shipwire, iContact, Mailchimp and “dozens of others.”
