Four Usability Tips that help your eCommerce Website Succeed

In today’s fast paced era, an ecommerce website that is easier to use stands a greater chance of success. A website that offers better and faster navigation along with better usability stands greater chance of success. You can easily determine the usability of your website through the following parameters.

1. Is your website fast?

It is possible for u you to determine how fast your website is. In fact, a slow website acts as a strong detriment to many users who feel that a web page is taking too long to download. Today, users are willing to stay for a maximum of 5-8 seconds on a website and wait for it to load, else they leave the website for a competitor’s website. Also check how long images take to load and how much scripting code is actually necessary for a page to run. Extra and unnecessary code takes up space and also consumes time.

2. Ensure that your website is easy to use

Customers today usually do not want to click on more than 3 or four categories to find our what they are looking for. This means that you need to ensure your website is easy to use since you have only about half a minute to convince the users that you have what they need. You need to put them on that path within this time limit, else you risk losing that customer.

3. Avoid unnecessary distractions

While customers are at the checkout page, there should really be no distracting elements there so that the customer can complete the buying process really without a hassle. Some customers actually leave the website without completing the website when they witness distracting elements on the website such as moving graphics and other elements.

4. Be focused

On a website, each page needs to have a focus. This means that a product page should be focused on the products while the home page allows the users to delve deeper into your website. The about us page should focus on what you or your company exactly does, while the checkout page should focus on checking the customer out from the website only.

Usability is now an important aspect of a website’s ability to function effectively. This is not a conclusive list, but just a small introduction to the world of usability.
